Suffolk County Council CYP wanted to bring all professional and Multi-Agency training into one area. Having previously operated over many databases, spreadsheets and processes they knew that one system would deliver an improved service at reduced cost.

They needed a system that would:

  • Provide inclusive access to professionals across the board
  • Make a wide range of training available to a number of categories of individuals
  • Allow management of courses from anywhere at anytime
  • Give access to comprehensive reporting and an overview of training records

This was all made possible with CPD Online LMS, which went live in April 2011 and has grown ever since.

Effective management of the service by Suffolk CC was imperative to the success of CPD Online. To do so they implemented – a CPD Online Steering Group made up of senior managers representing each channel, who make decisions on developments, issues and queries with the site; a Channel Leads Group with one expert from each area who meet to share issues, review features and discuss future priorities; and a full time Project Manager who is responsible for implementing, managing and running CPD Online across all directorates and audiences. Working closely with each of the Channel Leads who look after the day to day management of training, the PM facilitates future developments, manages the steering and channel leads groups, initiates system developments, collates issues and trains a wide range of staff who administer the system.

The ease of implementation was largely due to the well planned and managed roll out of the system. A communication plan was distributed, the Project Manager presented CPD Online in various meetings, leaflets were sent to all teachers and emails sent to all staff in the lead up, bite size information was presented as part of regular staff meetings, articles were made available online, posters of courses were sent to schools with the URL for CPD Online, training was provided and contact details made available to ensure full support for users.
